How to use this tool
Decrypt and extract a password-protected ZIP file in your browser.
Open the Unlock ZIP tool
Visit makemyzip.com/unlock-zip. The 7-Zip WebAssembly engine performs decryption locally.
Drop the encrypted ZIP
Drag the .zip onto the dropzone or click to pick it. Encrypted entries are detected automatically.
Enter the password
Type the password used when the archive was created. A wrong password produces a friendly error rather than a silent failure.
Browse and extract
Once unlocked, expand the file tree and download individual files or extract everything at once.
Frequently asked questions
Which encryption modes work?
AES-128, AES-192, AES-256 (the standard WinZip AE-2 / AE-1 modes), plus legacy ZipCrypto. Whatever 7-Zip can open works here.
Is the password sent anywhere?
No. The password stays in your browser tab and is used only to derive the decryption key locally. Nothing is logged or transmitted.
What happens if I enter the wrong password?
You get a clear error message — no crash, no partial extraction. Try again with the correct password.
Can I unlock a 7z or RAR file here?
Not in this tool — Unlock ZIP is ZIP-only. Use the Inspect Archive or Convert Archive tools as starting points for other formats.
